Professor Kamil Omoteso, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the College of Business, Law, and Social Science, University of Derby, says ‘Passport to Success’ can only be achieved with proper planning and tawakkul (the Islamic concept of the reliance on God or “trusting in God’s plan”).
Newsbreak.ng reports that Omoteso was speaking recently at the 2022 Professional Day in Lagos organised by the Alimosho Professional Group.
While urging people to combine hard-work, righteousness and prayer, he said, every person should plan and work hard as if the only thing that works is one’s hard work. Similarly, he advised everyone at the well-attended event to pray hard “as if it is only the prayer that will work for you”.
In explaining the reality of death he made references to life expectancy. Then he reawakened participants’ consciousness on preparedness for the hereafter.
The university don presented a chart on countries’ life expectancy where Nigeria ranks in the top 5 on short life expectancy with 55.
According to him, from data, he discovered that in 1960, Nigeria’s life expectancy was 20 years shorter than the current rating, and he tied this to low quality of life in this era.
Thus, he counseled people to take adequate care of their well-being, build positive relationships with their family and prepare for the final journey (afterlife) via devotion and charity.
