Apostle (Dr.) Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM) has said that hungry people need food more than they need prayer.
He said this at the commissioning of a free hospital his church opened in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on April 17, 2019.
“The wickedness is too much, the selfishness is too much. If they keep all the money and keep eating it. Somebody comes to you and says, ‘Pastor, I’ve not eaten since yesterday’ and you pray for him, food has not come. But when you give that person food and also pray for him, you give him strength to continue.
“Prayer is not everything. Prayer is not only in binding and casting, prayer is also in giving. Jesus fed 5,000 people. Let the right thing be done.
“One man committed suicide in Abuja because he could not feed his family. If churches can just open one free restaurant like OPM. Every Sunday for eight years now, when we share the grace, people will go to the welfare and go and carry food. You carry rice, beans, garri and different food stuff. Also, transport will be given to you. We have never missed it every Sunday. That is minus the free restaurant,” he said.
Chinyere also charged churches to establish free schools for poor children. He said this could help reduce the crime rate in the country. He added that the issue of funding is not the problem as churches generated huge funds in the country. He said the problem was pastors who believed all the funds belong to them and their families.
“Yes the word of God says the man of God can eat from the altar. But it did not say eat everything. There are churches in Rivers State, in Nigeria, making hundreds of what OPM is making but because of the greed and selfishness, they think the money belongs to them and their wife and children. There are churches can can operate hundred free schools and it won’t shake them because of the amount of money coming in.
“Let me tell you this, those kids you see cleaning your windscreens will go into pick pocket, from there to armed robbery. From armed robbery to kidnapping. But if they are captured at that young age, they won’t grow into such. If every church can open just one free school, crime in Nigeria will just drop to zero.
“Education is the foundation. All those kids you see on the street are not educated and that is why all they think about is crime,” he said.
