Muiz Banire, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has described the indictment of Abba Kyari, a deputy commissioner for police, in the case of international fraud involving another Nigerian, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, as a dent on Nigeria’s image.
Muiz said this on Sunday when he appeared as guest on Channels Television.
Kyari was suspended by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Sunday, following the recommendation of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, after a review of the allegations against him by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
A court in the United States had issued a warrant of arrest for him last week.
His suspension was contained in a statement by the commission’s head of public relations, Ikechukwu Ani, signed by Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, a retired justice of the Supreme Court.
According to the statement, Kyari’s suspension took effect July 31, 2021, and would subsist pending the outcome of the investigation in respect to his indictment by the FBI.
The commission also directed the IGP to furnish it with information on further developments on the matter for necessary further action.
