President Muhammadu Buhari Wednesday stated that he had started receiving documents that indict some former ministers and other government officials for oil theft and massive fraud. He said those indicted will be prosecuted if found guilty.
The president said this during an interactive session with Nigerians at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC, United States.
Buhari described the looting of public funds under the previous administration as mind-boggling. The president added that some top government official diverted much as one million barrels of crude oil per day for their personal purposes. Also, he said the affected officials have various bank accounts abroad through which they laundered money.
Buhari said he is being cautious in forming a cabinet, hence the concern over the delay and earning him the nickname ‘Baba Go Slow’.
The president promised to check excesses of the NNPC.
