President Muhammadu Buhari has said he holds his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, in high esteem, for accepting the outcome of the 2015 presidential election.
Buhari stated this while hosting Kannywood actors and actresses; entertainers of the Northern Nigerian extraction, to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
The president, who spoke in Hausa language, said he would continue to respect Jonathan because of that decision.
He said, “I will continue to hold former President Jonathan in high esteem as a result of that singular act.
“He (Jonathan) was in power as deputy governor, Governor (Bayelsa), Vice-President and President, all for about 10 years and he voluntarily accepted defeat and surrendered power to me.”
Buhari urged the entertainers to promote peaceful co-existence and unity among the diverse socio-political groups in the country, with their talent.
Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, claimed that fans of the entertainers would guarantee Buhari at least five million votes in the 2019 presidential election.
He challenged them to promote the achievements of the Buhari administration with their influence on social media platforms.
Mustapha thanked the entertainers for the roles they played in the 2015 elections, which according to him, contributed immensely to Buhari’s victory in the presidential election.
