Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, said his ballyhooed visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Mahmud Mohammed, aimed at resolving the state’s judiciary crisis created by his immediate predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi. He claimed to have written the National Judicial Council, NJC, on the need to renew the tenure of the acting chief judge and appointment of a substantive one.
“The truth is that the governor had no sinister motive in visiting the Chief Justice of Nigeria and that is why he went there openly,” Inko-Tariah said.
“You should be aware of the crisis in the Rivers State judiciary which was caused by the former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. For a long time the courts were shut and there is no substantive Chief Judge in the state.” The governor’s spokesman accused the the All Progressives Congress of mischief by going to the press.
