Reno Omokri, a former presidential media aide, has blasted Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation, over his opposition to the open grazing ban by the southern governors and his comparison of the situation to that of a spare parts ban.

Omokri made his stance known in a series of posts on Twitter on Thursday.

The southern governors had at their meeting in Asaba, the Delta State capital, last Tuesday announced the ban on open grazing across the region.

However, Malami in an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday said the declaration by the southern governors is unconstitutional, saying the decision is akin to northern governors outlawing the sale of spare parts in their region.

Reacting, Omokri said it was dishonest of Malami to condemn the ban on open grazing without denouncing the ban on alcohol sale and consumption, and pig farming by northern leaders.

The various Hisbah Boards in the north claim consumption of alcohol and all other intoxicants was forbidden in Islam.

Hisbah has also been accused of blatantly violating the basic rights of citizens in its mission to enforce criminal aspects of Sharia law on residents of northern Nigeria.

According to the former presidential aide, if northern states can ban alcohol sale and consumption and pig farming, then southern states can also ban open grazing.

“The comment by (President Muhammadu) Buhari ’s Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, that banning open grazing is like banning spare parts trading, shows this regime is fully behind killer herdsmen. If Northern states can ban beer and pig farming, Southern states can ban open grazing.

“If Nigerians can’t do open grazing of pigs in the North, then local and foreign herdsmen can’t do open grazing of cows in the South. You should not condemn one without condemning the other, except you mean Southerners are second class citizens!

“When Hisbah demolishes the businesses of their fellow Nigerians in the North for selling alcohol, where was Malami to defend them? But now that the open grazing ban has touched his ‘anointed’ herdsmen, he resurfaces to protect them,” Omokri tweeted.
