Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has invited deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu over allegation that he unilaterally tinkered with the senate standing rules to ensure his ascension to the position he currently occupies. He is to appear at the force headquarters on Monday. The invitation was necessitated by a petition to the police by some aggrieved senators. However, Ekweremadu’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party believes the summon is a ploy to arrest him. Olisa Metuh, PDP’s national publicity secretary, Sunday, says the change to the senate rules was done by the national assembly bureaucracy headed by the Clerk, Salisu Maikasuwa.
Metuh allege a plan to arrest Ekweramadu in order to pave his removal as the senate deputy president.
