Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, has been named as the Premier League player for the month of March.
Iheanacho was presented with the award on Friday after his stellar performance in the month under review.
The Nigerian international scored five goals in three games in March, including the equaliser against Brighton & Hove Albion, a stunning volley away at Burnley, and a hat-trick in City’s 5-0 win against Sheffield United at King Power Stadium.
He beat the other seven players shortlisted for the accolade, which included the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.
Speaking on the award, Iheanacho told the club’s website: “I’m so pleased and honoured to win this award. It’s great to be recognised, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my team-mates and the manager.
“I’m really enjoying playing at the minute and hopefully I can push on and help the team to finish as high as possible this season.”
Iheanacho becomes the fourth Nigerian to win the Player of the Month award after Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha, Osaze Odemwingie and Odion Ighalo.
Fellow clubmate and Nigerian international, Wilfred Ndidi, posted a video of Iheanacho posing with his ward with teammate, Ghana’s Daniel Amartey.
