According to Critical Voices, Briggs said this during a Zoom Conference organized by Njenje Media Group moderated by its chief executive officer, Tochukwu Ezeoke ,on the topic, ‘Killer Herdsmen Invasion Of Southern Nigeria And The Middle-Belt Region, Causes And Solutions.’
She stated that the South-south region is currently in a survival mode, saying that agitations and ethnic tension has continue to tear the country apart.
Briggs claimed that Nigeria is dead already because it has failed to work for all, insisting that it can be seen in the frequent clashes between ethnic groups and calls for self-determination.
“My aim is survival of my own Ijaw people because Nigeria is dead already, it is our own individual ethnic group that is alive,” She said in her contribution.
“Nigeria is failed already, and I don’t not want my people to fail with Nigeria. I want my people to survive.”
“God did not make Nigeria, Lugard did”, she added, while persuading others at the meeting to believe “that attacks by ravaging herdsmen is a vicious battle for hegemony”.
She further said that “our independence is paramount and therefore should not be sabotaged by any group.”
Other participants at the meeting include Afenifere and Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU).
Also speaking at the conference, Yinka Odumakin, spokesman of Afenifere, a social-cultural organisation, noted that the southern region of the country cannot continue to live together with northern Nigeria with the 1999 Constitution.
Odumakin demanded a new constitution with an option to allow any ethnic group opt out of the country when it is no longer willing to be part of it.
