Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State, has assured residents of the state that he will soon return from his coronavirus (COVID-19) isolation to govern them.

This was disclosed by Enyinnaya Apollos, the governor’s spokesman, in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Governor Ikpeazu, according to his spokesperson, said he is recovering well from COVID-19 and urged his team to carry on with the governance of the state in his absence.

“At exactly 5:18pm, Wednesday, 10th June, 2020, he (Ikpeazu) said to me: ‘Nna, I’m very fine. Unu jide stage (you people should carry on with work), very soon I will be back. I’m doing fine’,” Apollos quoted his principal as saying in a chat they had.
John Okiyi Kalu, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, announced on Wednesday that Governor Ikpeazu contracted COVID-19 and has gone into isolation.

The governor, according to Kalu, directed the deputy governor to act on his behalf pending the time he resumes duty.
Abia State has recorded 97 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
