Traditional rulers and local leaders from Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu, have expressed delight at the transformation agenda of Governor Hope Uzodinma in the state and have called on him to run for a second term in 2023.
The leaders made their view known at an event tagged “Egbu Declaration” where they addressed the recent clamour for zoning of the governorship seat to Owerri Zone in the next election. The leaders dismissed the clamour, saying that Uzodimma has brought development to the state and deserves a second term.
Addressing the media on behalf of the leaders from Okigwe, Owerri and Orlu, the National Chairman of the Orlu Political Consultative Assembly (OPOCA), Chief Rex Anunobi, argued that equity demands that the governor should be given the opportunity to return for a second term after which the office could be zoned to Owerri and Okigwe.
Anunobi accused Chief Emeka Iheadioha, Uzodimma’s rival for the governorship in the last election, of desperation to become governor.
Anunobi described Ihedioha as selfish for advocating for zoning on the basis that it is equitable.
“It is equally laughable and ironic too that Ihedioha, who has recently hinged his desperation and ‘t must be me’ attitude on equity, is the same person that seized power at the detriment of the people of Ngor Okpala,” said Anunobi.
