The Imo State branch of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW) has promised to partner the state government to ensure adequate security in the state, especially during the Yuletide period.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the branch, Samuel Udeh, at a briefing in Owerri on Wednesday. Udeh stated that the NURTW leadership in the state is committed to the restoration of decorum and sanity in the activities of members of the union.
According to him, the union’s major aim is ensure that its members serve as partners to the government to bring about in progress and overall development of the state, especially in the transport sector.
He also denied claims that some of the members of the union indulge in illegal activities such as extortion of money from commercial drivers as well as other breaches of the law.
Udeh commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for confidence reposed in him to lead the union and promised to meet to expectations.
He called on the media to support the union’s efforts to eradicate miscreants and infiltrators in the NURTW.
“The Imo State branch has over 25,000 members and all of us are committed under my leadership to assist the state government led by Senator Hope Uzodimma to combat insecurity and restore sanity in our general operations in the state
“We are not ignorant of the activities of detractors and miscreants, but we are poised to deliver to the best of our ability for the general good of the state,” Udeh said.
