Impersonation Only Way I Can Feed My Children – Dismissed Police Officer

A dismissed policeman, Femi John, who was paraded alongside other suspects arrested by the Oyo State police command on May 13, has explained why he will not desist from impersonation.

The 54-year-old former police officer was said to have been arrested before for the same offence.

He confessed to the crime, but stated that it is the only way he can feed his family.

“It has been a while I’ve been into it, so I am not afraid to go to jail. Jail is not meant for goats, it is meant for human beings. After all, most of Nigeria’s top politicians also go to jail. I didn’t rob; I am only using my entitlement to feed myself and my family,” he said.

“I do not regret my action; I am a Force man, so how can I regret? I am not a robber and I have never been to high ways to rob. I only create ways to feed myself and my children.”

Fake police boots, identification card and some other fake items were recovered from the rearrested dismissed policeman.

Meanwhile, the command earlier said it arrested a newly recruited police constable, Popoola Olufemi, who was caught while collecting bribe from a commercial motorcyclist in Ibadan.

The video of him collecting bribe, which reportedly went viral on WhatsApp and Facebook, showed Olufemi with service number; 509377, who alongside other officers of the Nigeria Police Force, were on a routine patrol in the Oyo State capital.

The command said investigations revealed that the new recruit was attached to the Elebu Police Division, while the act of extortion was carried out at Oke Aro community, within the same division.

The Oyo command said the culprits have been arrested, and are cooling off in detention while awaiting trial on the orders of the commissioner of police, Sina Olukolu.
