The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced dates for the conduct of governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, made the announcement on Wednesday at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Yakubu noted that the disclosure is in line with keeping the commission’s policy of announcing election dates in advance, in order to enable early and effective preparations by all concerned.
“The commission has approved that the Ekiti State Governorship election will hold on Saturday, June 18, 2022, while the Osun State Governorship election will hold one month later on Saturday, July 16, 2022,” he stated.
He also revealed that INEC has relocated a total of 749 polling units from inappropriate locations, including shrines, churches and mosques in various states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“After consultation with stakeholders, the commission has successfully removed 749 polling units from inappropriate locations to appropriate public facilities or open spaces, in line with our policy to guarantee unencumbered access to polling units for all voters”, he said.
