The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has finally issued former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, a certificate of return for winning the February 23 Senatorial election in Imo West.

The presentation came hours after the National Assembly was inaugurated, during which Okorocah was prevented from attending the inaugural session.

INEC had refused to recognise Okorocha’s victory, alleging that he was declared winner of the election under duress.

Justice Njemanze of the Owerri High Court, last month, further strengthened INEC’s position when he ordered that the Commission should not issue a Certificate of Return to any of the candidates that contested the Imo West Senatorial District election.

The Order from the court was issued on May 23, with the suit further adjourned till June 26.

Consequently, the former governor was not presented the certificate, when other senators-elect did in March.

However, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja, ordered INEC to release the certificate, condemning the electoral umpire for withholding it under an unrecognised law.
