Kunle Olawunmi, a former Navy commodore, has said security agencies in the country, including the Defence Headquarters, will not bring to book those sponsoring banditry and Boko Haram insurgency if President Muhammadu Buhari does not sanction it.
Olawunmi, who is also a professor of Global Security Studies, said this on Wednesday, when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.
The retired military intelligent officer said the sponsors of insecurity in the country who are known to security agencies, are the major problem of insecurity in the nation.
“The sponsors of Boko Haram and the bandits are the problems. And defence headquarters, the army headquarters, naval headquarters cannot do anything about that. Buhari has to do something about that. The Interpol has the list of those who are sponsoring Boko Haram. I worked with Interpol, They should ask if they don’t know,” he said.
“The Government of Dubai has the list of those people, during the trial of those people that were caught. Names were mentioned, they have the list. The government also told us they’ve arrested 400 spo0nsors of Boko Haram. Why should a government not try those people, and bring peace and harmony and safety to this nation?”
He alleged that top-ranking officials in Buhari-led federal government are among sponsors of terrorism in the country, adding that the government has developed cold feet in fighting insurgency.
