Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State, has urged the Federal Government to lift the suspension of the telecommunication network services shutdown imposed on 14 local government areas in the state following the attack on the popular Goronyo Market.
Governor Tambuwal stated that an official letter has been written to the Federal Government to that effect.
He disclosed this when he received the members of the North Eastern Governors Forum who were in Sokoto on Saturday to condole him over the recent terror attack, according to a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Affairs, Malam Mohammed Bello.
A total of 43 persons were killed during the recent terror attack at the Goronyo Market.
Governor Tambuwal said that the suspension of the blockage became necessary in view of concerns expressed by security outfits in the state that the blockage was seriously affecting the smooth conduct of their legitimate endeavours.
According to the statement, the state government has already forwarded a letter to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy to review the network blockage.
The statement noted that the North-East Governors Forum (NEGF) were represented by Governors of Borno and Gombe states, Prof. Babagana Aymara Zulum and Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya respectively.
