The outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Monday, said it has no intention of disrupting the forthcoming 2023 general elections in Nigeria.
Newsbreak.ng reports that IPOB is a separatist movement in Nigeria canvassing for the break-up of Nigeria and autonomous country of Biafra. It said it wants Biafra as soon as possible.
In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary who deploys the pseudonym, Emma Powerful, IPOB said although it has lost faith in Nigeria, it is not into armed agitation and would not launch violence in the 2023 election.
“IPOB will not spare anybody using our name to disrupt election, and nobody should link us with those who are destroying election materials.
“Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has said it several times that he has not asked anyone to carry out any attack on his behalf. Therefore, nobody should link us with the attack on INEC offices.
“IPOB is a civilized and disciplined Biafra Independence movement. We are not criminals nor are we part of their election thugs,” IPOB’s statement reads in part.
