In response to the recent revelation about the divorce of veteran Nigerian movie star Ireti Doyle, Aisha Yesufu, a member of the Peter Obi presidential campaign council, urged Nigerians to become accustomed to divorce.
Speaking out about the video interview in which the actress revealed that she had split from her actor husband Patrick Doyle, Aisha Yesufu argued that the happiness and mental health of the couple should come first, not the longevity of the marriage.
“We should learn to be comfortable with divorce. The longevity of a marriage should not be the prize. The prize should be happiness, fulfillment and mental well being of the couple involved. Where it is no longer optimal, people can decide to go their separate ways and be happy,” Aisha Yesufu wrote.
Recall that the actress stirred reactions when she revealed that she was no longer with her long-term partner.
Nigerians have continued to question why celebrities continue to divorce their partners, as her revelation comes shortly after popular Nigerian comedian Basketmouth announced his divorce from his wife Elsie.
