Oby Ezekwesili, a former minister of education, has said she made a deliberate decision since 2007 to reject all ministerial appointments from successive governments.
Ezekwesili revealed this in a series of Twitter posts on Monday while speaking on the state of the country.
The disclosure comes in the light of claims recently made by Japheth Omojuwa, her former protégé, who in an open letter said that Ezekwesili was expected to be appointed a minister by the new regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in 2015.
But Ezekwesili, the Co-Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Group, who has come under severe criticism supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari following the disclosure of Omojuwa’s claim, said she found nothing fascinating in being a minister.
According to her, her appointment as a minister by former president Olusegun Obasanjo had cost her and her family.
She claimed that those attacking are people who consider public office as a ticket for a “free meal”.
