About 1,200 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State.

Newsbreak.ng reports that the new PDP members were received on Monday by Saidu Umar, the Sokoto State PDP governorship candidate for the 2023 general election.

Also present at the event was Umar’s running mate, Sagir Bafarawa.

“Earlier today in Kaddi ward of Gada Local Government where alongside my running mate, Sagir Bafarawa, Sokoto State PDP Chairman, Hon Bello Goronyo, and other leaders of the party formerly welcomed 1,205 Supporters of @OfficialAPCNg who dumped the party for the @OfficialPDPNig,” Umar wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Meanwhile, Yusuf Suleiman, the Director General (DG) of the PDP Campaign Council in Sokoto State, has said the party remains the best party “for continued good governance” in the state.

Suleiman stated this recently at a stakeholders’ consultative meeting with members from Wurno and Gada LGAs.

According to him, the PDP would continue with the right policies in the state and proffer the best solutions to address the present challenges in the country.
