Atiku Abubakar, the presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thursday welcomed the enforcement of visa ban on ‘Nigerians undermining democracy’ by the United States (US).

In a statement he personally signed, sent to NEWSBREAK, Atiku urged other world superpowers to “follow suit”.

This news medium reports that the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken announced in a statement on Wednesday that the country had imposed visa restrictions on some Nigerians accused of undermining democracy, noting that this was part of the action to advance democracy and tackle corruption in the African country.

The top-ranking diplomat stated that the sanctioned individuals, whose names he did not reveal, would be ineligible for the US visa.

“I welcome the United States visa ban on anti-democratic elements whose actions seek to undermine the 2023 elections in Nigeria.

“I encourage other established democracies to follow suit to ensure that there’s no hiding place for the enemies of our democracy,” Atiku, a former vice-president said.
