In a surprising contrast to the position of his close ally, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, says he is not supporting the removal of Senator Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Newsbreak.ng reports that since the emergence of former Vice-President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the flagbearer of the party in May, the Wike group has insisted that Ayu must resign as a condition for supporting the PDP presidential candidate.
In a statement on Tuesday morning by Nathaniel Ikyur, Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), the Benue governor stated that he has confidence in Ayu’s ability to lead the party to victory in the 2023 general election.
“The governor (Ortom) could not, therefore, turn around to work against him to be removed from office,” the statement reads in part.
This online news medium reports that Ortom and Ayu are from the same state – Benue.
