The Federal Government on Thursday directed the use of refrigerated van for meat transportation across the country.

Newsbreak.ng reports that authorities threatened to confiscate meats being transported in an unhygienic manner.

This news medium understands that this step is aimed at ensuring a well-structured meat transporting system in Nigeria. Hence, the FG directed that only authorised ‘Refrigerated Meat Vans’ are allowed in the business of transporting meat.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is expected to strengthen its collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to ensure smooth and successful transportation of meat from various abattoirs to markets across the country.

“The Ministry has procured 37 vehicles that would be distributed to butchers for free in order to facilitate transportation of meat across the country,” Dr Maimuna Abdullahi Habib, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria and Director of the Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services, revealed recently.
