The Imo State House of Assembly on Monday afternoon removed its Speaker, Kennedy Ibeh.
Newsbreak.ng learnt that the Assembly has also chosen Emeka Nduka as its new Speaker.
Nduka, who represents the Ehime Mbano State Constituency, was immediately sworn in by the Clerk of the Assembly, Chinelo Emeghara, and was congratulated by the Deputy-Speaker, Amara Iwuanyanwu; and the Majority Leader, Kanayo Onyemaechi of Owerri West.
Lawmakers have promised to assist the new speaker to stabilise the Assembly.
It is the fourth time in two years that the Imo House of Assembly will change its Speaker.
Now-deposed Ibeh was sworn in November 2021 following the impeachment of Paul Emeziem as the Speaker over gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Emeziem was removed after a unanimous decision of the 19 members out of 27 lawmakers who signed the impeachment letter, which was read on the floor of the house by Amara Iwuanyanwu, the former Deputy Speaker who was sacked from his coveted position a week earlier by some of his colleagues.
