Mukhtar Isa Hazo, Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, has been removed out of office.
Hazo was removed by 24 members of the assembly at Thursday’s plenary session, despite having only occupied the position four months ago.
He was elected alongside Yusuf Zailani, the House Speaker, on February 25, following the resignation of some principal officers.
Speculations are rife that he was removed due to alleged inability to discharge his duties.
Before he was removed from office, there were rumours that Hazo was leading an alleged plot by seven members of the House to remove the speaker.
Lawmakers in support of the former deputy speaker exchanged blows with other members in the process of trying to remove the mace of House after the removal process was concluded.
Speaking in an interview, Zailani said his former deputy was responsible for his political travails.
The speaker claimed that Hazo was conniving with other lawmakers to remove him as the speaker, alleging that the former deputy speaker also committed other infractions that were against the rule of the House.
Some policemen and other security operatives stormed the Assembly complex to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
Hazo’s replacement is yet to emerge as of the time filing this report.
