About three million children in Kaduna will be immunised in six days by the state primary health care development agency.
The children, ranging from 0-5 will immunised against poliomyelitis starting from July 6, 2017.
The agency said in a statement on Tuesday that the exercise will run from July 6 and 11.
This is contained in a statement signed by the agency’s Deputy Director, Health Education, Hamza Ikara and State Coordinator, Journalists Initiative on Immunisation Against Polio (JAP), Lawal Dagara.
“It will be conducted on the streets, house-to-house and markets among others,” it said, and urged parents and caregivers to avail their children for the vaccination.
“‘We call on parents to allow their children of 0-5 years to be immunized during the July IPDS,’’ the statement said, stressing that vaccination would enable children grow healthier.
“The issue of polio is not over, parents must give all the needed support and cooperation by ensuring that no child is left out, ensure that every child is protected against the deadly polio virus.
“Parents should always see polio immunization as the only way toward ending polio in Nigeria.
“Adequate arrangement had been made for the smooth conduct of the exercise by the State Government, SPHCDA, Development Partners and other stakeholders,’’ it said.
It added that during the exercise, a lot of interventions would be provided such as health camps in high risk areas.
The statement commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, journalist and other stakeholders for their support and urged them to maintain the tempo to achieve the desired result.
