The Kaduna State Students wing of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has threatened to shut down the city of Zaria following the incessant abduction of their fellow students and their parents.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Jamilu Musa, the Kaduna State CNG Students coordinator, in a statement on Tuesday in reaction to the abduction of some staff of Zaria Local Government Area.
Reacting, the students notified that they would embark on a mass action to shut down Zaria if necessary action is not taken to secure the release of the captives in seven days.
The statement read: “It is unfortunate that so far, our governments, both federal and state, have glaringly failed in the vital area of providing public safety and security of lives and properties of Nigerians.”
The CNG had condemned the insolence of these criminals to carry out their atrocities with ease on what they called a huge vacuum in the political will and capacity of the authorities to challenge them.
“The Students Wing notes with utter confusion and shock of the emerging trend of ignoring innocent citizens, students and their parents to the mercy of the kidnappers without any awareness of emergency from the government.
“We particularly note that among the kidnapped women of Zaria local government are several mothers of many of our fellow students in various institutions.
They added “While we feel the pain of the families, friends and relations of the kidnapped staff, we demand immediate action from the appropriate authorities for their release, safety from the government and they should demonstrate more commitment to the protection of citizens’ lives and properties.
“We urge and state that enough is enough and students of northern Nigeria are no longer going to be disposed to sitting idly while the sanctity of the lives of their fellow students whose parents are infringed with impunity.”
Musa stated that the group has placed the authorities on notice of their planned action.
“We finally place the authorities on notice that failure to make visible and concrete action towards the safe rescue of all the parents and students involved in this latest incident and all others in captivity within the next one week would attract a mass action to shut down Zaria and compel positive action,” Musa said in the statement.
