A Kano resident, Bilya Abdullahi, has stabbed his ex-wife, Shafa’atu Saleh, and her elder brother, Ado Saleh, shortly after a Sharia Court dissolved their marriage.
Saleh of Wutar Kara Village in Rano Local Government Area of the state had dragged her ex-husband, Abdullahi, to the Rano Upper Shariah Court over maltreatment.
On Wednesday, the court dissolved the marriage and ordered Saleh to return the N20,000 dowry paid to her by Abdullahi.
Shortly after the judgement was passed, Abdullahi, who seemed angered by the verdict, brought out a knife from his pocket and stabbed Saleh, who was nine-month pregnant, inflicting several injuries in her body.
The brother of the ex-wife was not spared by the angry Abdullahi who was also stabbed at the back.
Speaking to newsmen while receiving treatments at a hospital in Rano, Saleh said she decided to take Abdullahi to court because she never knew peace since their marriage about three years ago.
According to her, after the court’s judgement on their case, they did not know that he came to the court with a knife and followed them as they left the court premises.
“As we were walking not too far from the court premises, he just came and spoke to me but I shunned him.
“After that, Ado was in front of me, I just saw Bilya with a knife and before you knew it, he stabbed Ado at his back.
“When Ado ran away, he followed him and stabbed him severally, leaving him lying in the pool of his blood.
“He then returned to me. As a pregnant woman, I could not run. I fell to the ground. He then pounced on me, stabbing me severally. He inflicted deep cuts on our bodies,” Saleh narrated.
It was also gathered that the ex-husband went on rampage threatening to stab whoever came to rescue his former wife and her brother until the police arrived at the scene and arrested him.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesman of the police command, Abdullahi Haruna said that investigations had since commenced on the case.
