Rabiu Kamba, special adviser to Kebbi State governor, has disclosed that a teacher and eight students out of the number kidnapped by bandits on Thursday at the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, have been rescued.

Armed bandits said to be numbering about 200 on motorcycles, invaded the school on Thursday at about 10:30am and abducted yet to be confirmed number of students and three teachers.
Kamba said the rescued abductees are currently being debriefed by the military.
The governor’s aide added that arrangement is in top gear to hand over the victims to the government for an onward reunion with their families.

“A teacher and eight students were rescued by the military,” he said.
“They are at present in the custody of the military in Dirin Daji. The government will soon receive them for a reunion with their respective families.”
Troops were said to have engaged bandits in a gun battle, in an effort to rescue the students.

However, one of the students was killed during the exchange of gunfire.
Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone, confirmed this to journalists in Zamfara State on Friday.
