Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, has stated that Yoruba kings who indulge in clubbing, smoking and drinking do not deserve respect from anyone.
The monarch said this at the installation of Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as KWAM 1, as the Mayegun of Yorubaland on Monday.

While reacting to speculations on social media that he has informed KWAM 1 not to prostrate before any monarch after his installation, the 81-year-old king said what he meant was that the musician after his installation, should not accord respect to any kind of king who goes about clubbing and smoking.

He said: “I did not mean that he should disrespect the royal fathers. He understands the culture and I am not saying that he should disrespect the culture. But kings who go about clubbing and drinking do not deserve any respect. Accord deserving honour and respect to kings; they are custodians of culture. But there are kings that are not worthy of honour and respect.”
