Organized Labour in Kogi state has cancelled this years celebration of workers day saying that there is nothing to celebrate.
This was contained in press statement jointly signed by the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Onu Edoka and the Trade Union counterpart, comrade Ojo Ranti in Lokoja at the weekend.
Edoka stated that cancellation of workers day in Kogi State for this year is to register the organised Labour’s displeasure over the way and manner the State Government has handled its members so far.
He explained that the non payment of salary to large percentage of workers and pensioners over the last fourteen months has destroyed the civil service and work force of the State.
He lamented that non payment of salary and pension has led to loss of lives and has brought untold hardship to works in the State.
The NLC boss also expressed concern that it has become difficult for civil servants affected by the State Government screening to feed their families. as well as their inability to meet other necessary obligations.
He bemoaned the pitiable state of education in the State, noting that all tertiary institutions owned by the State Government have been on strike in the last four months and there was no commitment on the part of the government to address the unhealthy situation..
He therefore called for prayers for God’s intervention to end the sufferings of the workers in Kogi State and prayed for the repose of the souls of workers and pensioners that have lost their lives in the course of the screening exercise.
