A barber was caught on Tuesday at the National Stadium in Lagos after he attempted to steal a purse.
Newsbreak.ng reports that incident took place near the Brai Ayonote Sport Complex inside the stadium.
The barber, a 17-year-old, after realising his plans had been uncovered, took to his heels but was caught following a chase by people who had gathered round after the victim, Lukmon Kushimu, raised an alarm.
In a chat with Newsbreak.ng, Kushimu, who is into aerobics, said he had suspected the teenager was up to something. He explained that he had seen him from a distance snooping through his bag.
“I just went to get something not too far from where I kept my bag only for me to notice someone searching my bag. After sighting him, I didn’t shout I just walked up to him and asked him what he was looking for inside my bag the next thing he dropped the purse and took off which made me to start shouting thief, thief.
“The truth is before he went to open my bag, we both passed each other, immediately I just had this urge to stand somewhere and watch him and I was right eventually. The purse he took only contained compact discs while the purse which contained money was tucked deep inside the bag,” he said.
Kushimu went on to complain that the issue of theft had become a common occurrence at the stadium.
“We use to experience stealing at the stadium which has been chasing away some of our clients who come for aerobic and it is really affecting us. It is high time the authorities do something about it,” he complained.
The suspect, who spoke in Yoruba, told Newsbreak.ng that he did not know what led him to the crime. He also claimed he had come from the Ilasamaja area of the state and should be pardoned.
