Fatai Owoseni, commissioner of police for Lagos state, has said a deceased policeman who shot three people and himself to death would be prosecuted posthumously. The killer policeman, Stephen James, a sergeant, murdered his victims, Taiwo and Kehinde Oyesunle, and their friend Jeje before killing himself at a hotel in Ketu area of the state. James, who was reported to have threatened to shoot at anyone who refused to buy him a drink at the hotel, was believed to have been drunk on alcohol. The twin brothers – the only children of their aged mother – reportedly cautioned James on his excessive alcohol consumption, which made him livid, and following which he ambushed and killed them outside the hotel premises. For prompt intervention of the police detachment, residents angered by the incident attempted to raze the hotel. “We would try him even in death and dismiss him for his actions. We want to use this medium to sympathize with the families of the deceased and we apologize for the irrational actions of the policeman who also took his life,” Owoseni said.
