Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has promised to “put in the work” to mitigate the effect of the downpour with regard to residents of areas to be affected by flood.
Sanwo-Olu said this in Facebook post on Tuesday night.
It was awful at the weekend in Lagos State following torrential rainfall that wreaked havoc on residents and property with attendant loss of lives across the metropolis.
Panic gripped residents and motorists as heaven continued to open up its content on Lagos in the past few days leaving the state heavily-flooded and sweeping away some residents to death.
“Lagos in the past few days, witnessed torrent rains, which caused heavy flooding on the roads.
“However, we are not oblivious to the hazards the weather has posed for citizens. As much as we cannot control the weather, we will as a Government put in the work to ameliorate the current reality of everyone living in flood prone areas,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“During the holidays, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were fully on ground to rescue displaced citizens as a result of the rains, treat and convey accident victims, manage a precarious situation where a tanker fully loaded with PMS overturned on the slippery road.
“They were quick and efficient in managing the situation whereby averting what would have been a disaster of great proportion.
“A very big thank you to the management and staff of LASEMA for always rising up to the occasion, for always being prompt when answering the call of duty, and for putting the welfare of citizens above theirs at all times.”
