The popular Agboju Market along 2nd Avenue Festac Town Road was on Sunday demolished by the Lagos State government.

Also affected were makeshift shops such as kiosks, food canteens and car dealer spaces; as well as church buildings situated from 1st Gate through to 3rd Gate at Alakija Bus stop.

A resident of Amuwo-Odofin told Newsbreak that two bulldozers arrived in the area alongside officials of the Lagos State Task Force as early as 5:30am on Sunday and started bringing down on the structures.

Traders scampered to savage their goods and valuables before the bulldozers got to their shops.

Although some people’s means of livelihood has been crushed, an officer of the Lagos State Task Force told this medium that traders and shop owners were given two weeks notice before the demolition.

Efforts to reach authorities of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area proved abortive as at the time of this report.
