A magistrate has ordered the remand in prison of a landlord and his son over allegation that they both conspired to murder their tenant. The septuagenarian landlord, named Augustine Anumudu and his son, Okey Anumudu reportedly suffocated their victim, Anthony Obuse, until he passed on at their No. 3B, Esomo Street residence, off Toyin Street, in the Ikeja area of Lagos.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Julius Babatope told the court the defendants committed the alleged offence on April 2 at 2.00 p.m.

Babatope added that the landlord and the deceased had had a long-standing quarrel over the latter’s illegal occupation of his house. The prosecutor equally said that the two counts of conspiracy and murder preferred against the defendants contravened Sections 223 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the two defendants did not take their plea when the charges of conspiracy and murder was read to them.

The Chief Magistrate, O.A. Adegite granted the accused bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the two accused should remain in prison pending when they perfect their bail conditions.

Adegite ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP’s) for advice and adjourned the case until May.
