Lagos state government says it would expand Obafemi Awolowo Way up to Alausa, in Ikeja, to commemorate one year the state Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has spent in office. Its commissioner for works and infrastructure Ganiyu Johnson said this at a press briefing on Monday.

Johnson said the re-construction would be an elevated highway meant to decongest traffic bottlenecks along Allen Round-About, Kudirat Abiola Round-about and Agidingbi Road-About. The commissioner also said work would be done on Allen/Opebi Road to Odo Iya-Alaro via a link bridge at Ogudu to the Third Mainland Bridge. He said the proposed re-construction

would boost the economic activities in Ikeja. In the last one year, Johnson said the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) worked on 540 roads, among which 32 roads were rehabilitated. Patching and overlay was done on 509 roads, and 433 of them completed. He added that 42 out of 224 ongoing road projects by the previous administration had been completed. The commissioner stated that the government is in talks with a consortium of consultants on the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge project.
