Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), has justified why armed police officers can threaten to kill unarmed citizens.
A Twitter user (@Kenny_D_Aviator) had asked the spokesperson why a police officer would threaten to shoot someone who is not armed.
“Is there any reason for a police officer to threaten to shoot someone when the said person is not harmed (sic) or poses any threat sir?” he asked.
Justifying his claim, Muyiwa said, “Mere words of mouth do not constitute any offense. Take note pls. Let’s read the law. There are decided cases on this assertion, even many popular cases that one can cite here. Ire o.”

Newsbreak Nigeria gathered that the view of the spokesperson contravenes Section 3 (D) of FORCE ORDER 237 of the Nigeria Police Force Continuum Matrix (FCM) which prohibits police officers from pointing firearms at citizens.
However, the latest tweet did not go down well with Twitter users as they accused him of being lawless.
