The Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) has shut down the activities of  Hongxing Steel Company Limited for safety violations.  The order, according to a statement  by the head of Press and Public Relations Unit of the commission, Lola Jagunmolu,  was placed on Wednesday, September 30. Director General, LSSC, Fouad Oki and his team went on a fact finding tour to the company in Amuwo Odofin following the recent publication in the Punch of the death of one Emeka Umoh who died in the company when molten iron spilled on him. Oki described the working conditions of the workers as deplorable, harsh and totally unacceptable adding that there was very little safety measure put in place.

A member of staff who preferred to remain anonymous lamented that though the conditions are harsh, they subject themselves to the terrible conditions because they have no alternatives.
On his part Uche Eke, Public Relation Manager of the company said the seal order will serve as a wake up call to the management to put proper safety measures in place.
