A woman, identified only as Biodun, has been arrested for slashing her neighbour, Babagida Sulyman’s tongue in Lagos. The victim’s mother owned the house, where Biodun was squatting with her married sister at Alhaji Abass street, in the Ogudu area of Lagos. Until they parted ways, Sulyman was close to Biodun, who she used to send on errands.
The two friends sometime had a disagreement, during which Biodun reportedly called him an ingrate. On account of the spat, Sulyman’s mother was said to cautioned to stay away from Biodun.
According to PUNCH, Biodun and Sulyman met at a woman’s shop in the area a day before the attack. The woman interrogated why the erstwhile good friends didn’t speak to each other, but Sulyman gave no answer and promised to reveal what had happened between them the next day. On the same day, around past 11 pm, Sulyman was said to have visited the toilet. The report claimed Biodun sneaked in on him, grabbed him by the neck and allegedly cut off part of his tongue. Olumide Agbolade, Biodun’s brother-in-law was said to have quickly raised an alarm. Sulyman was taken to different hospitals before he was finally admitted into it, but has not been able to speak.
Sulyman’s mother, Hassanat Ali, said: “I was sleeping when Agbolade banged at our door, calling Musa, Babangida’s elder brother, to come and see what Biodun did to Babangida. By the time we got to the toilet, there was blood everywhere. My son could not talk. I saw the severed tongue, while the jewellery Biodun wore was covered with blood. I asked her what happened, but she did not say anything.
“People rushed into our building and started beating her. I cautioned them and she was handed over to the police. Three different hospitals rejected Babangida before he was eventually admitted to the Lagos State Teaching Hospital, Ikeja.”
Yahaya Sulyman, the victim’s brother alleged the Investigating Police Officer in charge of the case had attempted to manipulate issues by saying Sulyman was injured why trying to kiss Biodun.
“A policeman came to the hospital to obtain his statement. He could not talk. He gave him a pen and paper and he narrated what happened in writing. We were surprised when we learnt that the IPO was saying he wanted to kiss her.
“Biodun’s family was pushing for settlement through the police. They brought a document for us to sign and offered us N30,000, but we rejected it. The DPO directed that she should be charged to court, ” said Yahaya.
Olarinde Famous-Cole, the Lagos State Police Public Relations, confirmed the assault, adding that the suspect had been charged to court on Friday.
It was learnt that Biodun was remanded in custody while the case was adjourned till October 18, 2017.
