Kashim Shettima, the running mate of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, has received strong criticism from Lagosians for asserting that Lagos state was a super slum before his principal took over as governor.

While speaking in Lagos on Monday, Shettima asked Nigerians to look past his age and health, noting that administration is not an Olympic sport.

The former Borno governor alleged that before Tinubu became governor of Lagos state, the state was a super slum.

“Questions about Tinubu’s health: We are not preparing for the Olympics… Lagos was a super slum before Tinubu became governor but has now been transformed,” Shettima said.

His remark comes as issues about Tinubu’s health continue to raise concerns about his ability to lead. Over the weekend, a member of the TInubu/Shettima presidential campaign committee resigned, stating that Tinubu was terribly ill and that the presidential candidate couldn’t even hold a tea cup.

Many Lagosians, however, have continued to disagree with the former Borno governor’s assertion that Lagos was a slum before Tinubu.

I am a Lagosian. Lagos was NEVER a slum. I take serious objection to that. NEVER. Has everyone forgotten that Lagos was the capital of Nigeria? Of course as a Governor, he contributed quite well to her development, but so did others like Marwa, Jakande, Fashola et al.
