Nasarawa United climbed out of the relegation zone in the Nigeria Professional Football League on Monday, after captain, Seun Sogbeso converted a late penalty to hand his team a 2-1 victory over Enugu Rangers.
Playing in front of their fans at the Lafia City Stadium in the week five encounter, the Solid Miners got off to a good start when Abdullahi Abubakar gave them the lead in the ninth minute.
Rangers however equalised through captain Okey Odita twelve minutes before the 90th minute mark.
The hosts secured the crucial three points after Sogbeso converted a penalty deep into stoppage time.
The win, which was Nasarawa United’s second of the season, moved them from 19th to 15th position in the table.
Rangers who have lost three and won two of their five games, dropped from 15th to 16th position in the table.
Nasarawa United will tackle Go Round in their next game, while Rangers International will host Rivers United at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu.
