Majority members in the Adamawa state house of assembly have questioned the purchase by Governor Bala Ngilari of two Lexus SUVs and two Hilux pick up trucks for N580 million. The cost of the jeeps, and trucks was put at N180million and N400 million respectively. The lawmakers condemned the purchase, which they said failed due process, and have invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to investigate.
The displeased lawmakers, who constitute a group loyal to the assembly speaker, Umar Fintiri, also faulted the sack of a whistleblower, Bello Umar, who is the director-general, Public Procurement Bureau for the state.
The lawmakers also condemned the move by nine pro-Ngilari lawmakers to impeach Fintiri, while three among them have had their seats declared vacant by the majority for defecting to other political parties.
The former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members affected by the decision are Umar Abdulkarim (PDM-Nasarawo/Binyeri), Hamman Tukur (PDM-Jada/Mbulo) and Adamu Usman (APC-Toungo)
