Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the Lead Counsel for the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has said his client, Nnamdi Kanu, is in excruciating pain.
In a statement on Thursday evening obtained by Newsbreak.ng, Ejiofor said the Department of State Services (DSS) is not giving Kanu, who is the IPOB Leader, the quality medical attention needed.
It would be recalled that on Monday, the legal team on a routine visit led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and Ejiofor, accompanied by some of the IPOB leader’s family members, had raised an alarm, claiming Kanu suffered intestine disorder.
According to Ejiofor, despite the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja that the separatist leader should be given serious medical attention, the DSS has been acting on the contrary.
Providing an update yesterday, the complaint by Ejiofor has not changed.
“Today’s visit (to Kanu at the DSS headquarters) was centered on our curiosity to ascertain the DSS level of compliance with providing Onyendu the requisite medical treatment that would address his deteriorating health condition,” the lawyer said.
“Sadly, we made startling discovery that despite the alarm raised on Monday, calling for the intervention of responsible foreign Governments and institutions, on the DSS flagrant disobedience of Orders of Court, particularly in denying Onyendu access to his personal medical doctor and medication, the lawless DSS immediately resorted to local chemist store to procure substandard drugs to be administered on Onyendu.
“Since it is now obvious that the DSS does not have the facility, capacity and/or resources to manage Onyendu’s deteriorating health condition, we are compelled to publicly implore the DSS, to allow us have Onyendu back unconditionally, or better still, allow us to purchase the prescribed drugs for Onyendu pending his unconditional release from their custody.”
