The League Management Company, LMC, has fined Nasarawa United the sum of N2 million, for breaching NPFL Framework and Rules.
The Lafia-based team is being punished by the league body for failing to control some of its fans during their Matchday 1 fixture against the league defending champions, Plateau United.
The fans entered restricted areas within the Lafia Township Stadium, and assaulted match officials in a game that Plateau United won 1-0.
The LMC revealed the punishment in a series of tweets. It demanded that Nasarawa United pay a fine of ₦1M for providing inadequate security at the
Stadium, and another ₦1M as compensation to the four-assaulted match
“Nasarawa Utd failed to ensure adequate security, crowd control & restriction of unauthorized persons from restricted areas during the game.
“Nasarawa Utd’s lack of crowd control & failure to restrict unauthorized persons from technical areas, led to their supporters gaining unlawful access to the dressing room of the refs at half time.
“Furthermore, Nasarawa Utd’s failure to ensure adequate security, crowd control & restriction of unauthorized persons from restricted areas, led to the attack & assault of match officials at half time & after the match.
“A fine of N1m has been imposed on Nasarawa Utd for failure to ensure
adequate security & crowd control which violates NPFL Framework & Rules.
“Nasarawa Utd will also pay N1m, being compensation for assault on the match officials, that is N250,000 each to the referee, AR1, AR2 & 4th official (reserve ref).” the tweets read.
The club have 48 hours to appeal or accept the imposed sanctions.
