Lobi Stars Chairman, Mike Idoko, has assured that the club is doing its best to ensure that continental matches are played at their Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi soon.
Idoko said playing at home will put Benue State on the world map, and give the fans the opportunity to watch the team while they play on the continent.
Lobi Stars have been shuttling between the state and Enugu, where they play their CAF Confederations Cup games. The continental football body had rejected their home ground for the competition over the level of standard of the pitch.
“We are not happy that we’re not playing at home. We have adopted Enugu as our home and as such, Enugu has been chosen as alternate venue; that is why we are playing in Enugu. We have enjoyed a lot of support from the Enugu fans and their FA,” Idoko said.
“There is no place like home. If we had played all those matches at home, who knows, we could have done better. One, you have the support, then you are losing a lot of revenues coming into hotels.
“When we fix our Stadium, playing matches here will put Benue on the global map. These are the reasons why we are doing everything so we can go back home. We are waiting for CAF to take final decision. They have come and saw what we’ve done.”
Lobi, who are Nigeria’s sole representative in the Champions League, are bottom of their group on four points.
