Imeh Friday Titus, 33, has been kept in Kirikiri Maximum Prison since 2012, when he allegedly raped and murdered a girl on a farm at Ilamija village, in Epe area of Lagos State.

Newsbreak.Ng investigation showed Imeh trailed his victim, Nwanna Blessing Monday, 19, to the farm, where she had gone to harvest cassava. At the farm, Imeh allegedly hit Nwanna with a plank many times on the head until she died. The defendant was said to have swooped on and had sex with Nwanna’s lifeless body.

Moreover, Imeh is Nwanna’s brother-in-law.

Imeh didn’t have a lawyer when he

appeared before trial judge, A.M. Nicole-Clay. Also, Imeh’s responses to judge’s questions further fueled suspicion he was not of sound mind. Equally, the defendant’s strange behavior was reason a proper proceeding failed to hold during the Monday appearance.

The prosecutor, Y.S. Sule, told Justice A.M. Nicole-Clay that Imeh’s unstable mental health was why he didn’t have a lawyer.

Ruling, Justice Nicole-Clay directed Comptroller-General of prisons to carry out a proper evaluation of the defendant’s mental health.
