Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, has appealed for peace after suspected killer Fulani herdsmen attacked Igangan, in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state.
It was learnt that the herdsmen commenced their attack at around midnight on Sunday, resulting in the death of five persons.
Five herders were also said to have been killed by security operatives, who arrived at the scene of the attack and confronted them.
It was also gathered that a truck loaded with cassava flour and some cars were said to have been set ablaze by the gunmen.
Reacting, Governor Makinde in a terse statement published on his Twitter handle on Sunday described the attack as “shocking”.
According to the governor, he has been briefed that security operatives are now in control of the situation and called on residents of Ibarapa, particularly Igangan, to remain calm.
“I have received the shocking news of the attacks on residents of Igangan, Ibarapaland, in the early hours of this morning. I am currently being briefed on the incidents. I urge residents to remain calm as security operatives are now in control of the situation,” the governor tweeted.
